2020 Cherry Blossom Forecasts

The early forecasts for the 2020 Cherry Blossom season are out, and provisional dates are now set for the major cities and regions of Japan. At the moment, for most of Japan it’s predicted that the cherry blossoms will start blooming around the middle of March, 2020. 

If you are planning on visiting Japan for the cherry blossom season, make sure you book for these dates.

*Please note that with weather and temperature, these dates can change. We will regularly update this to provide the most accurate dates.

*First date is when the cherry blossoms are expected to begin blooming. 2nd date is the what we at offthetrackjapan.com believe will be the best viewing times based off the initial blossoms.

Major Cities

  • Tokyo - March 22nd. Best Viewing - March 28th to April 6th
  • Osaka - March 25th. Best Viewing - March 31st to April 9th
  • Kyoto - March 25th. Best Viewing - March 31st to April 9th
  • Sapporo - April 30th. Best Viewing - May 3rd to May 9th
  • Hiroshima - March 23rd. Best Viewing - March 29th to April 6th

Hokkaido & Tohoku

  • Sapporo - April 30th. Best Viewing - May 3rd to May 9th
  • Hakodate - April 25th. Best Viewing - April 28th to May 5th
