The Atomic Bomb dome, in Hiroshima Prefecture is a historical landmark, showing the damage from the Atomic bomb that was dropped on the city of Hiroshima in World War II.

The Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome, also known as the Genbaku Dome, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Hiroshima, Japan. The building is a skeletal structure of a former exhibition hall that was destroyed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

The dome was one of the few buildings that remained standing after the bombing, and it has since become a symbol of the devastating effects of nuclear war. The Atomic Bomb Dome stands only a few hundred meters away from where the bomb that devastated Hiroshima exploded. What remains of the dome now stands as a reminder of the tragedy that occurred on that day, and serves as a monument to the victims of the bombing.
The building was designed by Czech architect Jan Letzel and was completed in 1915. At the time, it was known as the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall and was used to showcase local products and promote economic development.
The Atomic bomb dome has gone through some preservation work to ensure that the building can continue to last even after all these years.
No trip to Hiroshima is compete without gaining an appreciation of the damage that was caused during World War II.

Accessing the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome

The Atomic Bomb Dome is centrally located in Hiroshima, and is only a short walk the Hiroshima Peace Park and museum. 

Public Transport in the area is plentiful, with tram lines running on nearby streets. 

A near-direct tram service runs from Hiroshima Station, to the Atomic Bomb Dome, taking approximately 10 minutes and costing 220 JPY.
