Ibaraki Prefecture is located in the Kanto region of Japan, and is only a short distance outside of Tokyo. The prefecture is home to some 2,800,000 million people. The prefectural capital city is Mito, which can be found in the northern region of the prefecture. Ibaraki Prefecture is a highly educated prefecture, with it containing the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA), and a variety of nuclear power plants that supports the local economy.
A local specialty in Ibaraki Prefecture is Natto, which is fermented soy beans – which has a mixed response from international visitors due to its…unique taste and smell… Needless to say, Natto is an acquired taste.
