The prefectural capital city is Mito, which can be found in the northern region of the prefecture. Ibaraki Prefecture is a highly educated prefecture, with it containing the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA), and a variety of nuclear power plants that supports the local economy.
A local specialty in Ibaraki Prefecture is Natto, which is fermented soy beans – which has a mixed response from international visitors due to its…unique taste and smell… Needless to say, Natto is an acquired taste.
