Momijidani Park

Relaxing park on Miyajima

Momijidani Park is a popular destination year round, but is most popular during Autumn

Nestled just a few minutes away from the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, Momijidani Park stands as a charming hillside retreat, offering visitors a serene escape into nature’s embrace. In Japanese, “Momiji” signifies the vibrant red hues of the maple tree leaves, particularly during the enchanting autumn season. Translated as “Maple Valley,” Momijidani Park aptly earns its name, boasting year-round beauty with a special allure during the autumn months.

The park is renowned for its breathtaking display of autumn foliage, where around two hundred maple trees contribute to a symphony of colours during the autumn months. While this picturesque landscape is stunning year around, the iconic red maple becomes a symbol of Miyajima, inviting visitors to indulge in local delights such as maple-flavored cookies and an array of other treats available in the vicinity.

As you wander through Momijidani Park, you may encounter deer leisurely roaming, similiar to their counterparts near the Miyajima Ferry terminal. However these deer are somewhat less domesticated, prompting a gentle reminder to maintain a safe distance due to their occasional unpredictability.

Notably, Momijidani Park serves as the gateway to the Misen Ropeway, with its bottom station located within the park grounds. This ropeway ascends Mt. Misen, treating adventurers to panoramic views from the summit. Additionally, the park serves as the starting and ending point for the Misen hiking trail, inviting enthusiasts to embark on an invigorating journey through the scenic landscapes. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of Momijidani Park, where natural wonders and cultural treasures converge to create an unforgettable experience for all who venture here.
