Kanazawa (金沢), the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, is one of Japan’s best-preserved Edo-period cities. Once a powerful seat of the Maeda clan during the feudal era, Kanazawa flourished as a center of culture, craftsmanship, and cuisine. Today, the city remains a charming blend of samurai and geisha districts, stunning traditional gardens, and modern art museums. Often dubbed “Little Kyoto,” Kanazawa offers a more relaxed atmosphere with equally rich heritage.

In recent year, the city has grown in popularity among tourists, visiting for the quieter attractions, the rich culture, the pristine gardens, and traditional chaya (teahouse) districts. If you’re looking for a quieter destination that other parts of Japan, but still want that authentic and traditional feel, then Kanazawa should be on your itinerary!
