The Kokoen Gardens (好古園, Kōkoen) is a Japanese style garden first opened in1992 on the site of the former feudal lords residence. The Garden can be found just west of Himeji Castle, only a short walk from the Sakuramon-bashi Bridge when approaching from Himeji Station.
Koko-en is actually nine separate walled gardens, each with its own unique theme, all laid out over the formal residences. Among the gardens, you’ll find the Oyakuen, which is the largest and most elegant garden, with a pond and tea house, as well as the Chashitsu Garden, or the tea Ceremony Garden, Bamboo gardens, and a variety of other seasonal gardens. Most visitors take about 30 minutes to stroll through each of the various garden themes.

Accessing Kokoen Garden
Kokoen Garden is a short few minute walk from Himeji Castle. The gardens are about a 20 minute walk from Himeji Station down Otemae St, or a short 5 minute taxi from Himeji Station.
