Matsue Castle in Shimane Prefecture

Shimane is a prefecture located in the Chogoku region of Japan’s largest Island, Honmshu. It has a population for close to 700,000 individuals. The capital city of the prefecture is Matsue, home of the Matsue Castle.

The prefecture holds one of the oldest shrines in Japan, Izumo Taisha. Izumo Taisha is considered to be so old, that it exceeds all known records. However, it is believed to be established sometime around 300 A.D, given from artifacts that were found from around the shrine. 

Large Stretches of the prefecture are coastal, with most of the major cities located alone the coastline. while the majority of the land area is dominated by lush forests and farmland.
