Universal Studios Japan, commonly referred to as USJ, is one of Japan’s most popular theme parks, and among the top attractions in Osaka Prefecture. Situated near the waterfront in Osaka Bay, USJ is one of five Universal Studios parks worldwide, including parks in the United States, China and Singapore. USJ was the first of the Universal Studios Parks to be built in Asia, and it first opened in 2001.

USJ has a wide selection of themed areas, including Super Mario World, Harry Potter, Minions, Amity Village, Universal Wonderland, San Francisco, Hollywood, New York, Jurassic Park and Waterworld. Each of these areas has a unique theme and feel, with rides and attractions personalised to each section.

Because USJ draws millions of visitors each year, it’s highly recommended to book tickets in well in advance—especially during weekends, holidays, and school breaks. Furthermore, door sales stopped in May 2025, requring Early booking not only guarantees entry but can also help secure Express Passes to skip the queues for major attractions. Whether you’re a family looking for fun, a couple on an adventure, or a solo traveller chasing nostalgia, Universal Studios Japan promises a full day of unforgettable entertainment and world-class excitement.
