Tokyo Tower, located in the heart of Tokyo, is Japan’s 2nd tallest structure, standing at 333m tall. Construction was completed for the Tokyo Tower in 1958, and was the countries tallest structure, until it was eventually overtaken by the equally loved Tokyo Skytree.
Today, over 60 years after it’s completion, the tower serves as a communications tower and an observation deck, providing stunning views both day and night of the Tokyo metropolitan skyline and the Tokyo Bay, and it is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Tokyo.
To access the viewing areas, you have a couple options. The first is to take the easy elevator up to the main deck, at a height of 150m tall. Or, if you want to burn off those calories you have put on, then you can take the staircase up to the main deck (11:00am – 4:00pm on Weekends and holidays). From there, the Top Observation deck can be accessed if you have purchased the Top Deck Tour ticket, of which you can go up an additional 100 meters, giving you a far more advantageous view of the city. Depending on weather, you can see as far as Mt. Fuji from the observation decks of the Tokyo Tower.
The Top Deck Tour is based off reservations, and follow a specific path to give you the best experience as possible.
Additionally, on top of the fantastic views of the city, the Tokyo Tower is more often than not illuminated in the night. Occasionally, the exterior lighting for the tower changes in correspondence to notable events and promotions.
Because of it’s late hours, it makes for a beautiful place to come on a date and watch the busy streets below from one of the best views in all of Tokyo. We highly recommend getting a Top Deck Tour, especially if you are going up at night.
