The Beppu Tower is a small observation tower located along Beppu city’s beachfront. The 100 meter (328 feet) tall tower finished construction in 1957 and was built as part of an effort to help boost tourism in the area. Today, the tower is a symbol of Beppu, and aside from it’s functions as an observation deck, the tower is also used for TV broadcast transmissions.
The observation deck can be found on floors 16 and 17, at a height of 55 meters (180 feet), which provides visitors with a pleasant view of the city, surrounding hills, and the ocean. Visitors purchase tickets on the ground floor, or can be pre-purchased online.
Aside from the observation deck, the bottom 5 floors of the tower have a mixed purpose, including the a Capsule Hotel, a karaoke club, restaurant, sauna, and an art Museum. The Art Museum costs 1000yen, or you can purchase the art museum and observation deck ticket for 1,300 yen.
