Dotonbori Ferris Wheel

Unique view of Dotonbori

The Dotonbori Wheel, Also known as the Don Quijote Ferris Wheel or the Dotonbori Ferris Wheel
The Don Quijote Ferris Wheel, also known as the “Dotonbori Ferris Wheel” or the “Ebisu Tower,” is a distinctive and iconic attraction located in the bustling Dotonbori district of Osaka, Japan. This unique Ferris wheel is attached to the side of the Don Quijote store, a popular discount chain known for its wide variety of goods.

What makes the Don Quijote Ferris wheel different from most ferris wheels is the oblong oval shape, compared to the traditional ‘wheel’ shape of most other Ferris Wheels.  The wheel stands at about 77 meters (253 feet) tall, and the ride offers a fantastic vantage point  of the Dotonbori canal. Because of this, the wheel is very popular.

The Ferris wheel was initially opened in 2005, but it was closed in 2008 due to operational issues. After a hiatus of several years, it was reopened in 2018 after extensive repairs and upgrades, much to the delight of both locals and tourists.

The ride consists of 32 passenger cabins, and each cabin can accommodate up to four people. The ride takes approximately 15 minutes to complete one full rotation, providing ample time to take in the sights of Osaka from a unique vantage point.

From the Ferris wheel, you can enjoy panoramic views of Osaka’s skyline, including the vibrant lights of the Dotonbori area, the bustling crowds below, and the nearby Namba Parks, as well as other top attractions in Osaka, such as the Osaka Castle, and Abeno Harukas. On especially fine days, you can even see the mountain range that separates Osaka and Nara prefectures.

For the price, the Don Quijote Ferris Wheel is a fantastic and affordable attraction in Osaka. The entrance to the Ferris Wheel can be found in the Don Quijote store.
