Hakodate

Home to one of Japan's Greatest Night Views

Goyokaku in Hakodate

Hakodate is a small coastal city in southern Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost main island.  The city is the gateway to Hokkaido, with the Shinkansen that links Hokkaido to the mainland being just outside the city limits. Hakodate is known for having immaculate, fresh seafood – with the city surrounded by sea.

Hakodate is also home to one of Japan’s most famous night views, as seen from Mt. Hakodate. Take the scenic ropeway from the city up to Mt. Hakodate about 30 minutes before sunset, and watch as the city lights below begin to turn on, creating a dazzling view.
