Kokusai Dori (国際通り) meaning “International Street” is a 1.6km bustling main street in Naha, on Okinawa’s main island. Kokusai Dori has over 600 shops, restaurants, and bars, creating a vibrant atmosphere with endless food and entertainment options. The street takes its name from the Ernie Pyle International Theatre, which was built along it post-war and has since become an icon of Naha culture. Most Sundays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Kokusai Dori is closed off to cars, creating a pedestrian street for shoppers to enjoy.
Further adding to the bustling atmosphere, there are a number of covered shopping arcades, including the Maikishi public market, Heiwadori, and Mutusumidori, which all connect to and off of Kokusai Dori. Vistors can very easily spend several hours exploring all the shops of the nearby streets and shopping arcades, finding local specilaities, souvineers, fresh fruit and meats, and just about anything else.
