Minoo Falls – Osaka | Travel Information

Minoo Falls

Minoo (Also known as Minoh, Mino-o) Falls, located in the mountains of Northern Osaka Prefecture, is a scenic waterfall found in Minoo Park, a nature reserve. It is almost the opposite what you would imagine Osaka to be like, but it really is a stunning place to visit. While the hike to the waterfalls does take about 30-45 minutes for the average walker, the trail is very well maintained and almost anyone can hike it. Minoo Falls is located in a wildlife preservation area, where many Macaque monkeys were released several decades ago in hopes to reintroduce them to the Osaka forest.

Nowadays, the forest is thriving with monkeys and other wildlife, including freshwater river crabs. The monkeys are not to be fed, punishable by hefty fines, as part of the reintroduction to the wild, the city of Minoh is trying to ensure that the monkeys are solely relying on themselves rather than handouts. This law was enacted April 1, 2010 and is strictly enforced. Please be mindful of your surroundings if you grab a bite to eat around the falls, as monkeys often frequent the waterfalls and may be aggressive towards you if you are eating and may snatch your food or attack you for it. It’s the best place in Osaka to see monkeys in their natural habitat.

Minoo Falls is among the greatest spots in Osaka Prefecture to gaze upon the autumn colours.
