Ningle Terrace

Cozy shopping village with log cabins and evening illuminations

Two log cabins at Ningle Terrace, covered in snow.

Tucked away in the forest behind the Shin Furano Prince Hotel, Ningle Terrace (ニングルテラス) is a cozy craft village where about 15 log cabins are scattered among the trees, near the base of the Furano Ski resort. Each log cabin features a different shop, and a boardwalk pathway connects all cabins for easy shopping. Shops include jewellery shops, candle shops, leather working, and more, with shops offering a window into the artisan’s workshop for visitors to watch as the goods are created.

The name “Ningle” comes from the stories of renowned Japanese screenwriter Kuramoto So. In his tales, Ningles are tiny forest dwellers and are the “wise people of the woods”, standing about 15 centimetres (6 inches) tall. The small cozy shacks pay homage to the Ningles, being small in the vast forest.

While open year-round, the best time to visit is during the evening and after sunset as the small village is illuminated with small lights, adding to the cozy atmosphere. However, to best enjoy the lights, be sure to visit from December through to March as the Ningle Terrace is typically covered in snow, creating a unique, almost magical, atmosphere during the evening illuminations.
