The JR Sapporo-Noboribetsu area Pass is a convenient and cost-effective travel pass that allows unlimited travel across the Japan Rail (JR) network from Sapporo, West to Otaru, and south through to Noboribetsu. With this pass, travellers can easily explore the main tourist areas of Hokkaido. See the picturesque Otaru Canal, or the steaming volcanic Noboribetsu hell Valley. The pass also covers access to New Chitose Airport, making it an excellent option for visitors flying in or out of Hokkaido.

Service Area & Validity

The JR Sapporo-Noboribetsu Area Pass covers a small area around Sapporo, including Otaru and Noboribetsu for a period of four days. Get reserved and non-reserved seats on Limited Express, rapid, and local trains within the valid area. The pass isn’t available on the JR Hokkaido Bus, Sapporo’s streetcar or subway.

 

If you are looking for a bit more coverage, such as in Asahikawa or Hakodate, consider the JR Hokkaido Pass instead.

Before you purchase the Sapporo-Noboribetsu Area Pass, it’s important to know whether or not it makes sense with your itinerary. Here are the one-way and return journey costs for many of the popular Hokkaido itineraries to help inform your decision;

 

Sapporo -> Otaru: ¥800 One way / 1,600 Return

Sapporo -> Noboribetsu: ¥4,210 One way / ¥8,420 Return

New Chitose Airport -> Sapporo: ¥2,070 One way / ¥4,140 Return

Eligibility

All non-Japanese passport holders can use the pass. Be sure to bring your passport with you when you collect your JR Pass, as it will be checked to ensure eligibility.
