View of Kegon Falls from Akechidaira Ropeway Observation Deck

Kegon Falls, in Tochigi Prefecture, is one of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan. It is also the most famous waterfall in the Nikko area, known for its beauty and magnificent flow. The Kegon falls is the only natural drain from Lake Chuzenji, and as such, the flow can be effected greatly by the volume of the lake.

Kegon Falls are a year-round attraction, as each season presents new and colourful surroundings. From the vibrant colours of autumn, the frost-bitten and icy winter, or the lush greenery of Spring.

There are two great ways to enjoy Kegon Falls. There is a lower observation deck near the base of the waterfalls, allowing you to get as close as possible to the waterfalls. To get to this observation deck however, there is an entry fee of 570JPY. After payment, you will take a nearly 100m elevator down to the lower observation deck.

Another great way to see Kegon Falls is from the Akechidaira Ropeway Observation deck. While a little pricer than the paid observation deck at 1000JPY for a round trip, the view is unmatched. Not only do you get a stunning view of the falls, you can also enjoy the views of the nearby mountains, and the beautiful Lake Chuzenji.
