The Kirifuri Waterfall is a beautiful two-tiered waterfall that cascades 75 meters down the side of a hill. The name Kirifuri translates to “falling mist,” a reference to the fine spray that rises from the falls and drifts through the surrounding trees, especially enchanting during warmer months. However, autumn is when the Kirifuri Waterfalls truly dazzle, thanks to the lush forests surrounding this waterfall. These stunning waterfalls can be found on the outskirts of Nikko, in Tochigi Prefecture.
Visitors can admire the waterfall from a spacious observation deck, which offers panoramic views of both the falls and the verdant valley below. In autumn, the area is particularly popular as the surrounding maple trees burst into vibrant shades of red and gold, making Kirifuri Waterfall one of Nikko’s most picturesque seasonal landscapes. The observation deck is only about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest parking lot, making it a great place to stop to enjoy the view.
