Aomori Prefecture is the most northern prefecture on Japan’s main island of Honshu, and is the second most northern in Japan. Like many of the northern prefectures, Aomori is no stranger to mass amounts of snow. Aomori city actually has the world’s highest annual snowfall amounts, clocking in at well over 7 meters (23ft).

The capital city of the prefecture is of course, Aomori city, with a population of just under 290,000. In total,  roughly 1.4 Millions people live in Aomori prefecture, and a large portion of the prefectures economy comes from the production of apples. Aomori is Japan’s largest producer of apples. If you have the opportunity, then certainly try some of the local dishes involving apples!
