The Oirase Gorge, in Aomori Prefecture, is a scenic location that can be found in the southern region of Aomori Prefecture near Lake Towada. The Gorge becomes a popular walking area Autumn as the plentiful fauna begin their transition leading up to winter. In total, the gorge has a distance of 14km of length, and along the way many small waterfalls and rapids line the road and the trails. There is a thin and small bike trail that goes from the Oirase Stream Museum, through to Lake Towada.
Bikes can be rented from the Oirase Stream Museum and can be used to travel across the 18km trail, exploring the great outdoors of Japan. Along the pathway, you may come across a Stone hutt, which has a bit of an urban legend surrounding it. In the early days – 400 or so years ago it is said that a crazy, albeit extremely beautiful woman used the stone hutt to lure in travellers, murder them, and steal their items.
