This market is a great place to find unique souvenirs and local goods, such as traditional Japanese ceramics, textiles, and crafts. This lively market operates from the early hours of the morning, and most vendors are packed up by 4:30pm. If you happen to be in Kyoto on the 21st of the month, then the Toji Temple markets are a must see. A smaller market also operates here on the first Sunday of the month, with most of the items being antiques.

Toji temple is a convenient  15-minute walk from Kyoto Station.

 

Alternatively, to cut this travel time in half, you can take a train from Kyoto Station, on the Kintestu-Kyoto line, for 1 stop to Toji Station. This will cost 160JPY one way, but it will bring your travel time from Kyoto station from 15-minutes of walking, to 1 minute of train, and 6 minutes of walking.
